Numbers Can Be Deceptive–2012??
(Good-bye Teddy Kennedy—we disagreed most of the time; but you were a hell of a man.)
Yesterday’s post cited 176,000,000 Google results when searching for 2012.I know that the 2012 doomsday predictions are a very hot topic right now; and that the first 16 searches did indeed have to do with expanded topics such as “the 2012 predictions”; “2012 and the mayan calendar and prophecies”; “the 2012 movie”; etc.
What I failed to note was that the year 2012 will also be an election year (5,860,000 results), as well as an olympic experience (3,710,000 results).
So let’s back up for just a moment and give credit where credit is due. No doubt a significant portion of those sited 176 million search results will deal with topics other than the predicted 2012 apocalypse.
A couple of new searches this morning revealed the following: For “election 2012″–5,860,000 results; and, for “olympics 2012″–3,740,000 results.
The math is simple. Even allowing for all the other things are of interest in 2012, a possible doomsday scenario tops the list by far.
A significant number of the “2012 results” are there to “debunk 2012″.
Be sure in your searching to find and read both sides of the controversy. You’ll find everything from “Mayan calendar predicted apocalypse” to “another mild and boring winter soltice”.
The ones which have intrigued me the most are those purporting that BOTH could be correct.
Finally, after all these years, I get to use the word “solipsism” in a sentence. For a definition, visit http://www.iep.utm.edu/solipsis/ It may be just the catalyst you need to finally make a comment online.
I have noticed that most of the “2012 experts” I have encountered stop short of total annihilation and “death for all”. The 2012 movie stars John Cusack. Certainly no self-respecting director would consider killing off Mr. Cusack (especially if he or she wants to work again in Hollywood).
A scene from the movie’s trailer shows the aircraft carrier, John F. Kennedy, “surfing” ashore and making hurricane Katrina look kind of pale by comparison. If you’re like most of us at this point (over three years prior to the main event) you’ll have more questions than answers. I hope that you will visit my “mini website” in your travels. There you’ll find a free, 15 page report that will give you a whole lot to think about.
If you have already subscribed to my RSS feed, we’ll immediately begin to understand each other more effectively…and isn’t that what it’s really all about?
Till next time,
