December 21st, 2012…And Now

I am 62 years old, and in reasonably good health; so I look forward to that much touted sunrise, just a few years hence.

Some friends will not be so lucky–they were born too soon, lived too fast, “pickled” their livers, didn’t take their vitamins, etc.

Latest population predictions are that, globally, there will soon be 7 billion of us claiming our shares of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”.

We have done so for thousands of years. As a species, we confidently expected to continue doing so.

There have been some fringe groups who claimed to know the date of the apocalypse. So many have already gone on. Remember the Kool-Aiders in Ghana; and the Flying Saucer Seekers in California.

Generally, one charismatic leader determined that Doomsday would arrive on a given date; and he alone was privileged to know the Dooms-Date for certain. These misguided souls, and their followers, have been proven to be quite premature in their predictions. They have come and gone. The world just keeps on coming.

So what’s behind all the fuss connected to December 21st, 2012?

By now, you must have seen the previews for the 2012 movie…due in theaters nation-wide before the end of 2009. I’ve seen only the trailer. You can too. Visit the website: www.WhoWillSurvive2012.com/ or “do a google” for Who Will Survive 2012. As of today, August 24th,2009…over three years to go…and the first 12 of the 176,000,000 google listings have to do with a 2012 doomsday.

The next time you find yourself in a public place…anything from a Starbucks to your local church, pay attention to the conversations going on around you. The odds are good, and are increasing daily, that someone will be discussing the 2012 doomsday prophecies.

Since my interest was piqued several months ago, a significant portion of my computer time has been devoted to studying the 12.21.2012 arguments.

The discussion itself lends a great deal of value; no matter which side of the topic you pursue. So far the “crazies” don’t seem to be paying much attention. They’ll probably show up about the time the buttons and the T-shirts make their appearance.

I was born July 7th, 1947. If the phrase “Roswell Incident” means anything at all to you, you will understand that much of my life has been “other-worldly” directed.

I have long felt a kinship to Nostradamus, the Mayans, the I-Ching.

Born and raised a Catholic, (very, very lapsed for the past 45 years) I never expected to see a time when all of these disparate entities would agree, even slightly, on anything.

Turns out they all have similar approaches to the winter Solstice of 2012. December 21st to be exact.

If nothing else, this blog will be fun; as we take a somewhat disjointed view of what will transpire over the remaining time left to my own being and to that of our blessed earth.

Your comments will be more than welcome. Don’t delay. We have a very interesting deadline. (lifeline?)
