I have been disappointed before; but seldom quite so completely.

I ignored earlier 2012 movie reviews…asking how the reviewer could so completely miss the point of the 2012 doomsday story.

After spending a mindless two hours and thirty-eight minutes, debating with myself whether or not to get up and leave, I now have to agree with those earlier reviews and to ask myself how a movie could so completely miss the point.

Unless the point was to show some “over the top” special effects, coupled with some truly amazing driving stunts (in a limo, an RV, a Cessna, and a Jumbo jet, no less).

My wife, who wisely opted out of this movie, now tells me that if I wanted a documentary, I should have stayed home and continued watching some of the work (good and bad) being done by the Discovery Channel as they explore various other truly viable 2012 doomsday possibilities.

The movie is obviously a box office success. It is currently showing on several local screens; and lines for tickets are common at most.

Just remember that the same was true thirty years ago for ET; and is true currently for just about anything with a werewolf theme.

So, stand in line if you must.

If you are doing so in the hopes of being entertained, be prepared for a disappointment.

If you are in line hoping to learn something about the 2012 phenomena…….be prepared for a major disappointment.

My suggestion: Take whatever money you save on tickets and send it to your local electric company. Tell them to get busy… very, very busy preparing our outdated electic grid system for the massive solar storm that is expected sometime in 2012.

Do a quick Google for 2012 solar storm. You will quickly see that Hollywood’s 2012 “block buster” movie falls so short of it’s intent.

Till next time,

Most of the world has been totally unaware of the latest hurricane threat. Not so the survivors and victims of hurricae Katrina.

The mere mention of a hurricane anywhere along that devasted 200 mile stretch of the Gulf Coast is enough to dredge up some pretty horrific memories.

Friends and family still living along the Coast will clutch at the mere mention of “the latest hurricane approaching”.

Having witnessed a total of six, near “direct hits” during my 20 years as a resident of Katrina’s path (I arrived after Camille and departed before Katrina) so I’ll admit to being unable to even comprehend that level of destructive power.

One of the major hardships of hurricane damage is a complete loss of power. Some stretches of weeks living in un-air-conditioned darkness serve to strongly remind us of our near-total dependence on our so-called electrical grid.

Depending on the storm, damage is relatively localized; so as soon as the wind dies down, trucks begin arriving from surrounding states to work day and night to restore lights and power.

May you never have to experience the thrill of that return of power after an extended stay on the “dark side”.

But……as the upcoming 2012 movie will so dramatically point out, our entire life experience has become so totally dependent upon the “niceties” brought on by our advanced technology.

Everything from food and water to the latest football scores are available at the push of a button.

The movie 2012 will point out any number of areas that threaten our modern lifestyles….everything from some exotic cosmic alignment to an antiquated and extremely vulnerable electrical grid…and probably a half dozen other potential catastrophes.

I imagine that the poor Mayans will continue to catch hell for our predicament, even they could have had nothing to do with the state of our various grids.

Lots of people simply choose to ignore the entire 2012 frenzy. That option continues.

I can only say that one’s perspective can change rapidly……especially when you live on the beach and a Category 5 is headed your way.

We’ll see.

Till next time,

It’s a gloomy Sunday afternoon here in south Carolina. We’re just hours shy of the birth of my latest grandchild—-a little girl. Already three days overdue, labor will be induced Monday morning at 6am. Wish us luck.

AnnaBelle will be only three years old when the 2012 fireworks are scheduled to peak; so I am scrambling trying to come up with some answers to her inevitable questions.

She is one of the main reasons that I hope the whole thing will blow over Y2K fashion; but, I have to admit, the more I read and study the 2012 phenomena, the more I become convinced that we’re in for a really rough time—-if not the end time.

If you’ve been following this blog at all, you already know that I am advising personal journals that will record your evolving reactions to the Doomsday/Dud-day experience that is now only a matter of months in the future.

By recording both the number and the sources of the 2012 information that is becoming available, you will be able to intelligently plan your own personal response.

I will continue to recommend that you visit and register at the 2012 forum site

It expands daily and so far they seem to be keeping the “forum crazies” to a minimum. It already contains more info than you could absorb in the short time remaining before the fact. Check it out. You will be amazed at the various takes on the subject.

Most recently I was intrigued by the article concerning the possible existence of the “dark comet”—-invisibly ominous.

As significant as that cosmic visitor may be, I choose to focus on our own propensity for destruction. Nuclear comes instantly to mind. If you don’t recall the Cuban Missile Crisis or Three Mile Island, ask your parents….grandparents.

Nobody slept the night Kennedy and Kruschev seemed to have the world on the brink. Three Mile Island kept us all waiting for “the rest of the story”.

So we live with the knowledge that the mere pushing of a button, the wrong button, could send us all to oblivion.

Mom used to tell me that I wouldn’t be punished FOR my sins as much as I would be called to task BY those sins.

The thing I now find most imminently frightening is the shameful condition of our nation-wide electrical grid. We have already experienced some widespread electrical outages that should have been the call to action. Thousands without power in specific locations is one thing. The entire country/continent in the dark is a total disaster just waiting to happen.

And our own life-giving Sun could provide the trigger. 2012 is predicted to be the window for some of the most powerful solar storms ever recorded. For reasons I am yet to totally understand, these solar flares could cause problems to our electrical supply system with the potential to keep us all in the dark for years.

Just how serious is the problem?

Ignore the signs if you wish. I however took President Obama’s recent commitment of over three billion dollars to a “smart power” program as step one toward avoiding a complete meltdown when the solar fireworks begin in 2012.

The Mayan calendar may or may not play a part. Solar storms impacting an antiquated system will definitely open the door to all sorts of 2102 catastrophes.

Till next time,

Fred

But, what exactly are we counting?

I have suggested that we start by noting the increasing number of times that something or someone refers to December 21, 2012 as a significant event. It shouldn’t matter at this point whether the reference is made to:

(1) Some cataclysmic, earth ending, unavoidable, cosmic take down,or

(2) Some opportunity for world wide spiritual growth and awakening.

(3) A peaceful winter solstice non-event.

We’ll each have to decide for ourselves how to best prepare ourselves and our families.

By keeping a close watch on the increasing awareness of the projected earth event, we’ll be ever more aware of the need to prepare.

There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Dec. 2012 will be a time unlike any the world has ever known.

According to the counting down clock, we’ll have our answers in a little over 1100 days.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t recall off hand the last time that a bunch of scientists have been the least bit concerned about what we think or are feeling.

Everybody’s doing it!

A recent trip to the back country of southern Ohio brought the message home.

A seventy year old football fanatic took time IN THE MIDDLE OF A BROWN’S GAME to ask for my input on the 2012 doomsday prediction.

He claims that his doctor has been predicting his own personal doomsday upon every office visit for the last ten years……and he’s just stubborn enough to continue smoking and drinking till the end. He says that a 2012 doomsday is all he needs to prove his doctor wrong.

My point is simple: The 2012 and counting experience is two fold. (1) How much time till the end? { visit our countdown clock } and (2) How many people are doing the counting?

I heartily recommend that you start now to keep track of the number of weekly references you encounter concerning the 2012 phenomena. And keep track of the source: Electronic media, print, casual conversation…..and before long an increase in the number of End of the World soap boxers that begin appearing on street corners.

It’s seldom a day goes by that I don’t encounter multiple 2012 encounters; but, I am pretty well keyed in to the experience. This blog, as well as our growing website: 2012 Official Counting Down

I am very interested to hear from those of you who take a much more casual approach. Things are heating up and we still have over three years lead time.

You will be doing yourself a favor by keeping abreast of the latest developments……that is if you wish to be included in the conversations going on around you.

Till next time,

Fred

Our advancing age, coupled with this newly discovered awareness of the 2012 doomsday predictions, has had a profound effect upon this household.Any of you ladies who have raised sons and husbands have heard for years the explanation that we bought the latest Playboy magazine “for the articles”.

Of course, you knew better as did we; but at least the minor deception/self-deception allowed us all to make Hugh Hefner a very wealthy man, while allowing us to maintain a “pornography-free” lifestyle.

And now, thanks to the Internet, we could read the entire article, titled APOCALYPSE 2012, online at http://www.playboy.com/articles/playboy-forum-apocalypse-2012/index.html

So why buy the magazine in such enlightened days? Well, there are always the jokes……

The Playboy 2012 approach is on the lighter side (with several sideline stories concerning the extremely pro-active).

Given a bunker and a supply of bullets, these survivalists are determined to ride out the worst that the universe may have to offer.Dismissal of the whole 2012 doomsday predictions and prophecies would be easy enough if it weren’t for the already shaky condition of the planet.

A future, or non-future, as the case may be, that is already punctuated by severe climatic forces, terrorist fanaticism (including an ever present nuclear threat). A possible swine flu pandemic backed up by a potential global financial collapse rounds out the worst case scenario.

Throw in the existing food and oil shortages, and it becomes easy enough to understand the recent flood of attention zeroing in on that fateful December 21st, 2012.Dig a bit deeper and you will find a mysterious “Planet X” and a scheduled return of some not-so-friendly alien beings.

So what’s a body to do?

My plans are to maintain a “Y2K wait and see” mode. Make that…Wait and see…And hope like hell.

I’m enjoying my sixth decade. Looking back it seems that we were presented with at least one “end of the world” prediction for each separate decade. In my own experience the doomsayers are 0 and 6. For my grand kids’sake I hope that run extends to 0 and 106.

So, I will keep taking my blood pressure medications while keeping my eyes and ears open.

I’ve been a 2012′er for less than a month so far. Just long enough to start this blog and the accompanying website http://www.2012officialcountingdown.com

In the last month alone the 2012 discussion has been expanded by Playboy, Connecticut Public Radio and Animal Planet.

As my Dad used to say, “That much action at the base of a tree, from such different dogs,
almost guarantees that something is happening a bit higher up”.

You can bet that my eyes and ears will remain tuned in to channel 2012.

Till next time,

Fred

Most people haven’t heard the 2012 end of the world predictions; and that is as it should be.

When they do become aware, half of the citizens will dismiss the whole concept as simply that….a concept, pure speculation with no basis in fact. AMEN

At the other end of the spectrum will be the “survivalists”…given enough bullets and enough time to dig a bunker, these hardy souls fully expect to live through the worst that the universe may have in store for them. AMEN

Both factions will take comfort in having God on their side; and both sides will chose to ignore the previous interaction of their god with the sinners here below.

Does the biblical flood story not give cause for pause? AMEN and AMEN yet again.

Predictions at this point, three years out, seem only distantly frightening.

I mean we’re talking the end of the world here…total annihilation.

Even as a concept, it’s more than a little challenging.

And just how is the end of the world to come about? Some say fire…others opt for water; some predict a combination of the two.

The 2012 predictions even include an, as yet undiscovered–only predicted–mystery planet, Niburu, or any of at least 30 other names, which is ominously scheduled to impact our own, on or about the 21st of December 2012.

With three years to go, there seems to be little need to panic at this point.

What will be, will be. The fact seems to be self evident that whether you are totally unprepared at this point, or are currently “armed and dangerous”, the next three years will unfold equally for both sides.

I hope that you will check back here regularly to see how our viewpoint changes with time.

December 21st, 2012 will find me months past the traditional retirement age; but I will be sitting on the back porch with the youngest of my grand children in my lap; and I will need some answers for her.

Till next time,

So, what’s it like to be 62 years old in 2009?

Old enough to remember the feeling of a “lab rat” in the early administrations of the now famous, then hoped for, polio cure…shots and “boosters”; and the relief of not having to watch any of our classmates strapped into the previously all too common polio braces.

We were invincible!

So our eyes turned naturally to the stars…and the latest Russian threat…SPUTNIK.

C’mon Telstar. Tell us it isn’t so.

The young, handsome and doomed president promising to take us to the moon, and back, before the decade was finished…and the heart wrenching sight of John Junior saluting his fallen father.

Elvis… JohnPaulGeorgeRingo…George Wallace…Rosa Parks…much more than historical footprints, for us. We lived with these people daily; and found ourselves aligned somewhere along the spectrum they represented.

We gained the moon; and lost John and John, Bobby, and Martin.

Thousands of us lost it all in Southeast Asia, Viet Nam, ‘Nam, “in country”. There’s a WALL now in Washington, DC that is the experience for most of America. We who built that wall had a different experience. Nearly forty years later, we’re still sending our best to do our worst.

Have you thanked a soldier lately?

We are the generation that has gone from “a chicken in every pot” to “a damned computer on every desk”.

We remember the days when “pot”, “coke”, and “mouse” were independent of context.

We’ve known the days when 99% of the cars on the road could drive back to the place of their assembly.

Y2K. Enough said?

And now we’re being told that if we can just tough it out a bit longer, we’ll get to see it all end.

Got plans for December 21st, 2012? Rest assured, it will be a day to humble all of our previous Winter solstices.

Back to the opening question…If you are 62 today, you will be 65 on THE DAY. Time to retire; but did you ever dream that the universe had plans for your retirment party?

Stay tuned as we explore some of the possible scenarios.

Till next time,

Fred

Thanks PLAYBOY MAGAZINE.

You’ve brought many of us full circle. For many years we claimed to buy and read you “for the articles”. Of course we fooled no one; though lots of Moms pretended to accept our explanation.

Now, here we are much later in life, finding ourselves buying a PLAYBOY. This time it truly is “for the article” (though I will plead quilty to having sneaked a peak or two at some “non-editorial” content)

The article is in the September, USA, edition and is titled, APOCALYPSE 2012. The cover displays Heidi Montag on the cover and the feature article, written by Frank Owen, looks into the survivalist aspects of the 2012 phenomenon. Members from the popular 2012Forum.com website are interviewed at length.

Owen ultimately suggests that a little preparation for whatever may come is not such a bad idea. He leaves it to the individual to determine how much preparation is enough.

I have never considered PLAYBOY MAGAZINE to be on the cutting edge, but in this case they seem to have jumped ahead of TIME, NEWSWEEK & 60 MINUTES. You can rest assured that much more media attention will be directed to the 2012 doomsday scenario.

Here’s a bonus for all of you who have read this far: the URL for the 2012 forum: http://2012forum.com/. Look toward the bottom of the page and you’ll find the URL for the PLAYBOY MAGAZINE article as well.

I will personally recommend the forum. As you must be aware, the 2012 phenomena are becoming major topics for discussion….and we’re still three years in advance.

The forum has expanded to include discussions of many different aspects. The inevitable kooks and crazies are permitted, though not encouraged.

No matter where you fall on the 2012 spectrum, you’ll find discussions here that will fuel and feed your need to know more.

I hope that you will also take time to visit my new website: 2012OfficialCountingDown.com

The bottom of each page is linked to all of Google’s latest 2012 developments. We may not always be pretty…but, we’ll never be boring.

See you soon?
