2012 Solar Storms and Our Grid….

It’s a gloomy Sunday afternoon here in south Carolina.  We’re just hours shy of the birth of my latest grandchild—-a little girl.  Already three days overdue, labor will be induced Monday morning at 6am.  Wish us luck.

AnnaBelle will be only three years old when the 2012 fireworks are scheduled to peak; so I am scrambling trying to come up with some answers to her inevitable questions.

She is one of the main reasons that I hope the whole thing will blow over Y2K fashion; but, I have to admit, the more I read and study the 2012 phenomena, the more I become convinced that we’re in for a really rough time—-if not the end time.

If you’ve been following this blog at all, you already know that I am advising personal journals that will record your evolving reactions to the Doomsday/Dud-day experience that is now only a matter of months in the future.

By recording both the number and the sources of the 2012 information that is becoming available, you will be able to intelligently plan your own personal response.

I will continue to recommend that you visit and register at the 2012 forum site

It expands daily and so far they seem to be keeping the “forum crazies” to a minimum.  It already contains more info than you could absorb in the short time remaining before the fact. Check it out.  You will be amazed at the various takes on the subject.

Most recently I was intrigued by the article concerning the possible existence of the “dark comet”—-invisibly ominous.

As significant as that cosmic visitor may be, I choose to focus on our own propensity for destruction. Nuclear comes instantly to mind.  If you don’t recall the Cuban Missile Crisis or Three Mile Island, ask your parents….grandparents.

Nobody slept the night Kennedy and Kruschev seemed to have the world on the brink.  Three Mile Island kept us all waiting for “the rest of the story”.

So we live with the knowledge that the mere pushing of a button, the wrong button, could send us all to oblivion.

Mom used to tell me that I wouldn’t be punished FOR my sins as much as I would be called to task BY those sins.

The thing I now find most imminently frightening is the shameful condition of our nation-wide electrical grid.  We have already experienced some widespread electrical outages that should have been the call to action.  Thousands without power in specific locations is one thing.  The entire country/continent in the dark is a total disaster just waiting to happen.

And our own life-giving Sun could provide the trigger.  2012 is predicted to be the window for some of the most powerful solar storms ever recorded. For reasons I am yet to totally understand, these solar flares could cause problems to our electrical supply system with the potential to keep us all in the dark for years.

Just how serious is the problem?

Ignore the signs if you wish.  I however took President Obama’s recent commitment of over three billion dollars to a “smart power” program as step one toward avoiding a complete meltdown when the solar fireworks begin in 2012.

The Mayan calendar may or may not play a part.  Solar storms impacting an antiquated system will definitely open the door to all sorts of 2102 catastrophes.

Till next time,

Fred
